Benjamin Rascon Gracia, the editor-in-chief of the 2016 Scrapbook yearbook from Westfield Middle School in Westfield, Indiana, and past contributor for the Walsworth Yearbooks Blog, was recently named the winner of the Aspiring Young Journalist award by the Journalism Education Association (JEA).

Each year, JEA presents the Aspiring Young Journalist honor to “junior high/middle school students to acknowledge and reward their work, and to encourage them to continue their journalistic studies in high school.”

Rascon Gracia has served on the award-winning Westfield yearbook staff for the past two years. He was an assistant copy editor for the 2015 yearbook, which won CSPA Silver Crown and NSPA Pacemaker awards. For this year’s book, he was once again a copy and accuracy editor and was named the book’s editor-in-chief, which is an honor given at the end of the year on the Westfield staff.

In February, Rascon Gracia wrote a post for the Walsworth Yearbooks blog about developing interesting angles for yearbook stories when writers are stumped.

Congrats, Benjamin!
