Submissions from eight Walsworth Yearbooks schools were named Finalists by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) on Monday in its 2019 Design of the Year Contest.
Most notably, 10 Finalists were named in the Yearbook Page/Spread and Yearbook Theme Package categories. In both cases, five of those 10 Finalists were from Walsworth Yearbooks schools.
The Yearbook Page/Spread Finalists included:
- Hannah Ilao and Ashleigh Soto from the El Corazon staff at El Camino Real Charter High School in Woodland Hills, California
- Madison Sophia from the Fusion staff at Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Florida
- Savannah Gery from the Arena staff at Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas
- Lexi Harris from the Lion staff at McKinney High School in McKinney, Texas
- Alieu Jagne from the Lair staff at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Shawnee, Kansas
The Yearbook Theme Package Finalists included:
- Hannah Ilao, El Corazon, El Camino Real High School, Woodland Hills, California
- Sydney Anderson, Lexi Harris and Kayla Thompson, The Lion, McKinney High School, McKinney, Texas
- Lilly Concannon, Megan Flanagan, Le Flambeau, Notre Dame de Sion High School, Kansas City, Missouri
- Staff, Hauberk, Shawnee Mission East High School, Prairie Village, Kansas
- Ethan Schreiber, Lair, Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Shawnee, Kansas
In the Infographic category, there were three Finalists named from Walsworth Yearbooks schools. Kimball Gogel and Lilah Powlas from the Hauberk staff at Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas, were named for their graphics on a spread about stress. Ethan Schreiber from the Shawnee Mission Northwest Lair was named a Finalist for graphic work on a “in case you missed it” spread. The staff of the Salmagundi at Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida, was named Finalist for their work on a colorful “Would you rather…” spread.
In the Illustration category, the Salmagundi staff received another Finalist nomination for their work on the football spread called “Remember Ray.” Lilah Powlas received a second nomination for Shawnee Mission East for illustration work on the spread “Modern Muse.”

Winners will be announced at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Washington, D.C., Nov. 21-24.
