Walsworth Yearbooks was represented in the Finalist selections announced this week by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) for their 2018 Portfolio of the Year contest, with three entries from Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas.
Portfolio of the Year is a new category this year in NSPA’s individual contests, honoring students for Artist of the Year, Broadcast Journalist of the Year, Designer of the Year, Marketer of the Year, Multimedia Journalist of the Year, Photojournalist of the Year and Writer of the Year.
Lilah Powlas from the Shawnee Mission East Hauberk staff was named an Artist of the Year Finalist for her graphic illustrations covering the solar eclipse, body image and fashion statements.
Kimball Gogel from the Hauberk staff was named a Designer of the Year Finalist for her designs on art, homecoming, the musical and the index section.
Elise Baker from the Hauberk staff was named a Photojournalist of the Year Finalist for her sports photography and student life photography.
The complete list of Finalists for 2018 Portfolio of the Year can be viewed on the NSPA website, along with all other Finalist categories, including Design of the Year, Photo of the Year, Middle School, Broadcast Story of the Year, Digital Story of the Year, Social Justice Reporting, Best Use of Social Media, Cartoon of the Year, Story of the Year and Portfolio of the Year.
The winners for all categories will be named during the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention Nov. 1-4 in Chicago.
