Walsworth Yearbooks schools dominate in 2018 CSPA Gold Circle Awards

Students from Walsworth Yearbooks schools won first place prizes in 18 of the 39 high school yearbook categories when the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) announced the winners of its annual Gold Circle Awards on Wednesday.

Each year, the CSPA Gold Circles honor superior work by student journalists in both print and online media.

The first-place winners from Walsworth Yearbooks schools included:

  • Feature writing: Student Life – Nicole Stuessy, “She’s with Her… He’s on the Trump Train,” The Lion, McKinney High School, McKinney, Texas
  • Sports reporting – Alaina Burris, “Met Your Match,” The Lair, Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Shawnee, Kansas
  • Sports feature writing – Ariana Contreras, “Just a Little Push,” The Legend, El Dorado High School, El Paso, Texas
  • Academic writing – Jonathan Alexander, “Claying Around,” The Lair, Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Shawnee, Kansas
  • Personality profile – Addie Von Drehle, “Tom DeZutter,” Hauberk, Shawnee Mission East High School, Prairie Village, Kansas

Maddie Johnson from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, was also a first-place winner in the People spreads without mug photos: multi-page spread category. Plant High is a new Walsworth Yearbooks customer for the 2018 school year.
